Description of skills: NAME RECOGNITION
Name recognition and getting and keeping your dog’s attention are very important steps in training your dog. We frequently use a dog’s name as a command that means look at and pay attention to me. This command is very important because it gains your dog’s attention so that you can successfully issue other commands. When I say “Mia come” what I am doing is gaining my dog’s attention and then issuing a command that I want her to follow. Many owners who have not completed this training step properly complain that their dog’s have “selective hearing” or that they simply ignore them.
