Description of skills: SIT

“Sit” is one of the most important commands your dog can learn. It can be used to control your dog’s behavior in many different situations. When dogs are sitting they are not doing other things such as jumping or barking. Sit can also become your dog’s automatic behavior in many different situations. Many dogs have been taught to automatically sit quietly when being leashed up, before going out the front door, while waiting for their food dish to be placed on the floor and before crossing streets. My lab Mia loves to jump on people so I taught her to sit as a way of asking for attention. Now instead of jumping on me when I come home she sits in front of me with her tail wagging wildly from side to side.
